Polar Bear Gold

Although I usually paint in oils, I like to take a break now and then to play with acrylics. I enjoy revisting my Polar Bear King theme, and creating new stories about the polars bear’s majesty in black, gold and acrylic paint. I impose some pretty human feelings to these little portraits, but, that’s the human way, isn’t it?! But no matter the scene, our mighty hero is always in his rightful place of apex figure of the North.

The gold paint represents the treasure our polar bear is. The stylized sun, and its position in relation to the bear, speaks to the suns power and our warming climate.

Each painting is 6”h x 12” w black, white and metallic gold on canvas. Wired and Ready to hang.

Why I Use Polar Bears on my Military Helmet Art

An Art Salute to Polar Bears, Service Men & Women

Salute
The artwork on the helmet Salute symbolizes the respect, loyalty and responsibility practised

in the military and also the same that is owed to it by the country it serves.

My art practice focuses on the theme of polar bears, their vulnerability from climate change and the Canadian connection to it. The “strong and free” polar bear shares many attributes with the military - bravery, strength, resilience, and tenacity.

In my series of paintings entitled Golder Bear , I often portray a polar bear face set against a metallic gold, halo-like sun. The sun’s rays reach out connecting the viewer to the bear, the sun and the challenge of our warming climate. Gold paint symbolizes the “wealth” and “value” of nature.

Salute is created in the Golden Bear style. But in this artwork the polar bear’s face is framed by a gold maple leaf. Instead of the sun’s rays to connect us, there is a motif of repeating maple leaves, that blends almost camouflage-like. This “Canadian” pattern connects to the back of the helmet, where the golden silhouette of a soldier, looks ahead in salute, to a setting sun skyline of gold maple leafs. The soldier, the country and the polar bear, all to be valued and protected.

Family, love, & togetherness are represented by this pink, gold and rose gold acrylic paint on wood panel.
The polar bear is an intelligent, good mother. Polar bear cubs climb all over the mama bear just as our human little ones do. Her cubs stay with her for about 30 months.

In my art gold paint represents the royalty and intelligence of the polar bears, and the richness of nature.

Crackled white paint adds to the illusion of fur in the painting, but the "cracks" also symbolize the vulnerability of this polar bear family due to climate change.

A stylized gold ribbon behind them represents the northern lights, as well as our connection to the bears.

The sides of the wood panel are painted gold. The painting is wired and ready for hanging.
