In this original realism wildlife oil painting on canvas, something catches this polar bear’s attention on his walk through the arctic night. What is it that he might turn around for?

As I painted this big bear, I imagined it was the sounds and smells of a town just beyond the horizon that caught his attention. Hopefully, he makes the right decision to keep going,

A result of climate change is that the sea ice that the polar bear is so dependant upon for hunting, traveling, mating and safety, is dispersing earlier and freezing later. This brings our great bear ashore for longer periods of time, increasing its chances of volatile contact with northern people and towns.

My polar bear portraits are created in wonder of this magnificent marine mammal and in warning of its vulnerability from climate change .By my use of realistic portraiture oil painting, I strive to connect the face of this highly intelligent, beautiful and powerful northern apex animal with the southern audience.
