20" x 60" figurative art & floral garden oil painting. A girl sits in solitude in on the back stairs of the cottage on a summer day on vacation. What is she thinking as she sits hidden by the masses of beautiful blue hydrangea in the garden. Bare feet on the cool flagstone patio. Is she as blue as the beautiful flowers that surround her? Or is she just lost in thought in the moment. Artist note: This painting is based on a beautiful garden of a remarkable historic century old cottage that I had the good fortune to be invited to visit in Chappaquiddick Island part of Edgartown, Massachusetts and by Martha's Vineyard. I have never seen so many blue hydrangea in one place. For someone like me, who loves the color blue, and hydrangea, it was an inspiring sight! 3000 -
Kincardine Lighthouse stairs. 20" x 20" realism, figurative art oil painting. A young women descends the stairs at the Kincardine Lighthouse on Lake Huron (Ontario, Canada), framed by the light. I was intrigued by the contrast of the human form against the angles of the staircase. The light or lack of it turned the white walls into a myriad of shade of grey.
My scenic figurative art are usually images of a solitary figure in the moment in the outdoors. They are full of color. In my earlier artworks, including those that were lighthouse art, viewpoints were of the exterior architecture & looked up. In contrast this lighthouse painting is about white, reflections & light. The viewpoint is of the interior of the architecture and is one looking down. Until now, was part of my personal art collection, and a personal favourite. 1400-
