Escape, wonder, and reflection – these are the feelings evoked by Christine Montague’s beautifully rendered, realistic oil paintings of people, places & portraits. An award-winning artist, with an academic background (B.F.A., B.Sc. Concordia University; Ontario College of Art and Design), Christine easily makes the transition from landscape & figurative painter to portrait artist. Her confident, contemporary brush stroke, and her ability to paint large canvases as easily as small, result in inspirational images of summer days by the Lake Huron Shore, plein air landscapes & portraiture.

An artist active in the western GTA since 2003, Christine has participated in over 50 art shows. She has had a studio & was a board member of Beaux- Arts Brampton, an artist co-operative she helped to create. From there, Christine painted portrait commissions & figurative landscapes out of her studio/gallery, and was a Board executive, at the Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre in Halton Hills. In 2007, Christine worked solely out of her Mississauga home studio while she passionately advocated on behalf of her city’s artists for much needed low cost studio space. Christine is now the visual artist representative on two committees seeking resolution to this issue. Recently, Christine opened a new studio at the Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre where she continues to work on her series “The Reluctant Tourist”.

Christine’s paintings are in the collection of McGill University, Peel District School Board, and Youthdale. Her larger-than-life portrait of the late, jazz great, Dr. Oscar Peterson was presented to the Peterson Family and Mayor Hazel McCallion at the “Mayor’s Tribute to Oscar Peterson: Feelings From the Heart”. It hangs by the Mayor’s portrait at the entrance to Hammerson Hall, Living Arts Centre, Mississauga.  Christine’s original landscape and portrait paintings are in numerous private collections (Canada, England, Bermuda, USA)
